Thornwick Pool - 4th August 2017

Moorhen in "party dress"!

A pleasant sunny morning, but a rather strong, challenging blow greeted me this morning as I decided to head out to Thornwick Pool for a couple of hours. After all, anything could drop in! But, it didn't! Had I not had a camera with me, the expression "watching paint dry" would have described my morning exactly!

So what was about? Well, c32 Dunlin skittishly toured the pool:

Revelling in this Dunlin's "gloopiness"!

Revelling in this Dunlin's "gloopiness"!

A juvenile Moorhen showed off it's party dress!

An adult Moorhen showed some urgency and was the only bird that appeared to be able to "see off" the Grey Lag Geese!

Let sleeping geese lie!

A Cormorant flew in briefly in order to preen but was outnumbered by the local gangs!

My excitement reached fever pitch when this female Mallard started preening!

A single Hobby flying over briefly was orgasmic for c ten seconds! Still, you cannot predict nature and you have to make the best of what is before you! And, of course, you never know what might fly in!
